Pinepollen is one of the most complete sources of nutrition found anywhere in the natural world. It boasts 20 different amino acids, 8 of which are 'essential' as they cannot be synthesised in the human body and must come from nutrition. This makes pine pollen a complete source of protein. It contains omega 3 fats (ALA) as well as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and B9.

It also contains fat soluble vitamins A (beta-carotene), E and D – pine pollen contains both vitamin D2 and the bioactive D3 which is exceptionally rare for a plant. It also possesses an impressive array of important trace minerals, immune-enhancing polysaccharides, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), DNA building nucleic acids, live enzymes and a mass of antioxidants. It actually stimulates the production of our body’s own endogenous antioxidants glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).

The thing that pine pollen has become most renowned for in the west in recent years is its role as a powerful phyto-androgen – a plant that contains steroid-like compounds that are identical to testosterone and other androgenic hormones like DHEA and progesterone amongst others. This makes pine pollen a powerful medicine for the endocrine system, especially for those advancing beyond middle age whose levels of serum androgen hormones are rapidly decreasing.

However, when we buy pine pollen products we will either be buying it as a powder or an alcohol-based extract. The powder is deeply nourishing but doesn’t pack the same hormonal punch as the tincture since all of the hormonal sterols in pine pollen are alcohol-soluble.This is why the tincture is not really suitable for children or young adults as they generally don’t need the increase in androgenic hormones.

The powder is extremely versatile and can be used as a superfood powder for smoothies and recipes, and it makes a great flour, soup thickener and is amazing in home-made desserts! It can also be used to make instant drinks – both hot and cold. It is perfectly safe for everyone to consume – men, women and children of all ages.

Nyishar Wild Mountain Pine Pollen is harvested from deep within the pristine mountain environment of Changbai in the Jilin province of north east China, far from the contamination of industry and civilisation. The pollen is collected from a high altitude (1500m above sea level) during two weeks every March when the vast landscape of pine trees come into bloom. Pollen is harvested only from mature trees who are able to produce complex and nutritious pollen, unlike younger trees whose pollen possesses less nutrition and medicinal utility.

Impurities are removed from the harvested pollen through airflow separation. Then, through the process of low temperature, pressurised vibrational airflow cracking, the cell wall of the pollen grains is 'cracked open', making the immense nutrition they contain bioavailable to the human digestive system. This ensures that approximately 99% of all pollen grains are successfully cracked open and able to travel through a 250 mesh screen.

The cell wall of pollen grains is very tough so utilising technology of this kind can maximise the availability and absorption of the therapeutic compounds within pine pollen (see comparison slides in the photo gallery). On average, this improves the nutrient density of pine pollen by at least 20%.
